re install xp 2 - and it works but

Thank very much got lap top running xp now ! but when I try and load bt broadband it says the pc is running windows 3.1 no memory and no usb ports? I know the lp has 2 usb ports and is a pentium 4 Can any one help ?

If you did a repair from the xp CD then it will overwrite all your system files and return them to the service pack level of the CD. I would service pack 2 the system and get all the files up-to-date. Does your device manager say the USB ports are working OK?

to update your system to the latest service pack.

oops hit submit. thats assuming you can get an internet connection at all.

if not, goto control panel -> system, and into the hardware tab. click device manager (as j2buttonsw said); see if there are any problems (they'll show up with an "!" next to them).
