Note in the video it is really the artist head.

Wow, that is spectacularly tasteless and horrible!

I try and steer clear of saying that I don't understand art, but in this case, i am happy to admit that I am totally lost about the point of this.

I spoke at length with a sculptor who is exhibited internationally, and she said that the hallmark of good art is something that speaks to the viewer.

Well this piece does - literally as well as artistically, but i have no interest in what it says it is trying to say, because its imagined message is utterly lost in te tastless tackiness of its execution.
Never mind the execution. A cake depicting female circumcision? The very concept is repugnant. The height of poor taste.

Maybe that's the point. If the subject is a horrible one, it can't really be anything but a horrible piece of art. There's no nice way to depict female circumcision, nor should there be - I imagine that's what the artist might say.

What I do find bizarre and disturbing is the party atmosphere. Everyone having a good old giggle as they tuck in to the grotesque thing. If he was trying to make a serious point it's a massive fail because everyone seems to be treating it as a bit of a laugh.
ludwig - maybe so, but it was so hamfistedly done that it utterly failed to be anything other than grotesque.

There was nothing anywhere near a social message in the whole event - I am all for art making all kinds of impact, but this was just misjudged.
