I saw a sparrowhawk take a bluetit then the very next day one captured a pigeon in a tree, feathers everywhere.I believe that this was probably a female hawk as it was a bigger bird can anyone confirm?

Luckily, most of our small birds have learnt that if they hide in the hedge, they can't be got at!, though I did once see the female come down and take a Starling off the bird table. She just hit it and carried on to the lawn. I think her speed killed the Starling more or less instantaneously. All part of nature.
