I have just removed 2 Laurels from the North-West corner of my front garden ,leaving a space approx. 1 yard by 1and1/2 yards. We are on chalk and I would like an evergreen ,max height 10ftish.My neighbour and I would like something pretty/fragrant.

I'd suggest choisya (Mexican orange blossom). Nice green foliage all year and really fragrant white flowers in early summer, often with a repeat flowering.

I have Choisya Ternata in a south facing spot,it loves it there, will it like a North-West spot?? forgot to say that corner is shaded by the house so doesn't get a lot of sun.Any thing else possible?. Thanks.
Try Philadelphus(mock orange) or ceonothus
Not scented, but amelanchier has white blossom and bronzy foliage in the spring, berries for the birds, then autumn colour.
A Daphne (Odorata) would be wonderful.
