Im thinking of having a complete break from the internet for a while.... i dont use it often apart from fb and a few groups i go on and to look for work ..oh and i check the bank sometimes or shop very occasionally. i think i could very easily switch it off and not bother with it for however long.... how long do you think you would last without it?
As an expat I rely on the internet for news - buying English papers is horribly expensive here and you only get a trimmed down version anyway. I use emails to keep in touch with people and if I want to phone them then I find a number (on the internet) that gives me a nice cheap phone call. I buy books (mostly second-hand) and a few other things online. I couldn't cope without it, even though I don't use facebook or twitter.
hi commoner, i dont use skype myself but i think its one of the best things ever to come out of the internet for families all over the place :)
ah i often read newspapers online that we dont get over here..i had forgotten about that bambi..... hmmm im beginning to wonder if i would miss it more than i think lol
annasquith, I don't have a landline but nobody knows I am calling them from Skype, or they are ringing my Skype number. It is no different to using a landline phone - except it is much cheaper (often free) and there is no line rental to pay.
You don't even need to use the video part of Skype, I rarely do, and I have a Skype phone that looks and behaves like a normal phone. My pc doesn't have to be switched on.
