Hi Just bought a samsung galaxy y mobile. I don't want to use it for internet and only have texts and calls. However, just viewed my bill and I have been charged for GPRS. I wonder if you can help me as I have never heard of GPRS

1. What is GPRS?
2. How have I run up charges when I have only made telephone calls or texts?3. I have managed to disable it, but will that have any affect on using my phone?

Thanks for your help

Wouldnt the obvious people to ask be the phone service provider ?
GPRS is data usage - the phone must have been using a data connection for some purpose even though you weren't using the internet (possibly updating applications or map data for instance).

If you turn all data connections off then you should get no further charges, but texts and calls will work OK.

Thanks very much Sunny-Dave.
Yes Bazwillrun, I could have asked the phone provider, but felt it would be good to share experiences and knowledge on this site to prevent someone else being unaware that they were being charged for something they didn't want/knowingly use. Thanks

If you do turn off your data connection. You will find when you are out and about you won't receive emails and some apps will need a data connection to work properly.
