I miss the local caff

Where have they gone? Served a 'proper' dinner every day as well as the full English and everything with chips, pie and mash, apple pie and custard for afters. Usually a daily special such as liver and onions, hotpot, casserole, faggots and peas.
A hot sandwich if you just wanted a snack.
Usually the 'proper dinner' was cooked on the premises with a proper joint of meat and fresh veg, so at least you got real food and no 'ding'.

Food was basic, but good honest food.

We have one in Kendal called the Union Jack. It has been here for years. It looks just the same. Don't know if the food has changed though.

Its not fashionable hc. Liver and faggots have been replaced with paninis and wraps. Thank goodness ;-)

Near where I live we still have a cafe. All the lorry drivers use it, so it can't be that bad. Can't remember the name though.

There was one, just off the A14 round Suffolk / Cambridgeshire border, proper transport cafe, I remember getting egg, bacon, chips, bread & butter and a big mug of tea in an ERF Trucks mug, for change out of a fiver.

That was an awfully long time ago. The last few times I've been on that manor I've found no trace of it.

we have two within walking distance, really good fast service and nice and clean premises,go in there for a "treat" now and then as we dont cook chips in our house, both are run by Turkish families and I have been told that they will deliver a roast on Sundays to the elderly for under a fiver.
