I lost a shoe once. Went out for the evening, came home with both shoes on, next morning could only find one of the pair I'd been wearing. Never found it.

There are usually some shoes on top of bus shelters, you can see them from the top deck.... also it's not un-common to see them tied by the laces and hanging on over phone lines.
