i wrote a snotty letter to them last month when it happened, because the packet i was waiting for was very important. got a response from them apologising and assuring me they would talk to the roundsmen ...well we'll see

There was a letter in the paper the other day saying that the writer had answered the door because they saw the postman come up the path and he was writing a card out to post through the letter box. The writer said not to bother as he would accept the packet but wondered why the postie had not knocked or rung the bell before filling in the card. Postie said that for security reasons they did not now carry packets and it was up to you to claim the packet at the Post Office. He could just have been a very quick thinking idle git but as this has happened to me so many times then I tend to believe him. Just what are we paying postage for? Could be a substantial round trip for some people and not fair on the elderly or infirm.
Ah, complainers should live in a village. Our postie not only delivers letters but signs for anything to be signed for, to save me the trouble. Er....yes.
Delivery drivers are more of pain, we find. They cheerfully drive up simply to bung a card through the letterbox, inviting me to ring some number, at my expense,to invite their firm to send a driver to do the same again, or drive thirty miles to some desolate industrial estate, to an address the satnav can't find, to collect the item in person, producing a passport and utility bill to do so. Dead convenient!

You need to stick this notice on your door.

Actually saw a Parcelforce driver drop a package that was for me (Panasonic digital camera) and then kick it along the path ! He didn't know I was watching so when I challenged him he said "well it's wrapped in bubblewrap!!"
Phoned up and complained and he was brought to the phone to apologise ! He had also already signed for it for me ! Told him I could have said it was never delivered but that didn't seem to bother him. Hey ho !!
