National Anthem

Looking at Mosaic's theme about Footballers & The National Anthem does anyone else besides me think it is time we had a proper stirring National Anthem instead of the limp thing we have at the moment ?

Yes, Billy Connolly once suggested, The theme from the Archers, which at the time i thought very funny and appropriate. However seeing as that isn't possible, perhaps Land of Hope and Glory.

Yes, it's rubbish as a National Anthem. Doesn't mention the nation, just the monarchy, and the tune's a dirge. I agree with em10 that Land of Hope and Glory would be a good one, or Rule Britannia maybe.

it's a nice sprightly waltz, but for some reason they always play it slow. It's quite nice to have dance music for an anthem.

jno - it never occurred to me before that it's a waltz tune. If only it was played as a jolly dance tune, it would be so much better

Land of Hope and Glory would be a fine choice for a British anthem, with Jerusalem as the English anthem.
