Lifted old garden path leaving a 250mm.(10inch) deep trench how much would i have to pile up the soil to allow for the soil compacting,want to turf after to match existing level of existing turf.

If you have 10 inch of depth you should back fill to about 5 inch with stone and then sharp sand. Then fill in with soil to about 1 inch below existing grass level. Lay you new turf on this. As you are filling in the medium should be well compacted to avoid settling. You can always top dress the new turf with sharp sand to lift it as it settles this summer! Chris
