why do people do cryptic quizzes

I have spent weeks on my 1st cryptic quiz. Frustrating. Difficult. Sleepless nights. Why do we do things like this??

Yes they are near impossible when you first start, but as you get used to them, especially if you always do them set by the same person, you 'start to click' as to how to tackle them.
Try the daily crossword in your paper for a month or so and see if you get hooked on cryptic.
Er, yes, spending weeks on one is probably not the best option. Reach a point when you've tried enough, then go look at the answers. Figure out how they come from the clues, and resolve to do better on the next one. And if you don't see how the answer came from the clue, ask & learn.
