why do people do cryptic quizzes

I have spent weeks on my 1st cryptic quiz. Frustrating. Difficult. Sleepless nights. Why do we do things like this??

There have been lots of questions on this horsing around quiz already - it's always worth putting the clue in the search box at the top of the page, to see if it's been answered already.

Marg keep at it, surprising how satisfying they can be when you have that eureka moment and it's all done.

Surely the answer is obvious, they enjoy them. As an added benefit they keep you in the habit of using your brain, which some think helps keep you 'sharp'.

Yes they are near impossible when you first start, but as you get used to them, especially if you always do them set by the same person, you 'start to click' as to how to tackle them.

Try the daily crossword in your paper for a month or so and see if you get hooked on cryptic.

Er, yes, spending weeks on one is probably not the best option. Reach a point when you've tried enough, then go look at the answers. Figure out how they come from the clues, and resolve to do better on the next one. And if you don't see how the answer came from the clue, ask & learn.

I know that with crosswords, cryptic or simple, I cannot bear to see all those blank spaces, I just have to fill them in (preferably with the right answers).
