In our new home (some of you may recall we are busy self building away ... Getting very close now) we want ceiling speakers and some kind of music / entertainment system, but have no idea about what is what. We still use CDs but would like to load our music onto a laptop and be able to play it from there, through the house. TV would be good too in the lounge. Can anyone tell me what we should be looking for, or give any advice? Especially regarding cost. We are having the electrics done soon nd want to have the initial Irving done. We can wit for the rest if necessary.

Bluetooth speakers might be worth thinking about, save on all that wiring.

Wow, what terrible typing! what I meant to say was ...

Bluetooth speakers will negate the need for any wiring, could be worth checking them out.

Thanks Philtaz, I had considered something like a b&w zepellin, but would like music all around the house. Whilst the electricians are in, it will be cheap to wire up, and put spires in, but I don't know what they should be attached to, ideally a music player and surround sound tv.
You need to look at a central server system which you can load with all your music and videos. Google 'integrated home media systems'
I looked into this for my Nephew

Not too sure if this would be suitable for you, karly...

Thanks Zacs and Judge. The Brennan looks good, but what is the difference with that and having music on a laptop or iPad? What I still don't get is how that then connects to the skiers in the ceiling around the house .. Or how the tv does.
Skiers in the ceiling!

Thanks for all answers - we ran out of money doing our build, which drastically changed our options .. So what I did was buy an iPod touch, loaded all my music on that, then bought a portable speaker dock second hand. Total cost £100. The sound quality is fantastic, it helps living in a church though ... Acoustics are amazing!
