I went into Wetherspoons about a fortnight ago to check that out, and apparently not. I was hoping, cos there are four of them in MK.

Apparently they are leading the way for smoke free pubs, and although not all are yet (none in MK t-m-m) but maybe one day. You could aways contact JDW and ask for it to happen!

So that a fair balance might be maintained, is there by any chance a directory of pubs which encourage smoking ? We wouldn't want one section of the population being allowed to force their will upon another section, would we ?

The non-smokers have had the smokers forcing their will (as well as exhalations, bad breath, yellow fingers and teeth) upon us for years, we need a break. Bring it on.

Wetherspoons have non smoking areas. Usually in the boring restaurant bit. I think from next year they are going to make most of their pubs non smoking.

I dare say that Octavius sounds a tad biassed in his answer. I have never witnessed anybody forcing a non smoker into a smoking room. Why not just be fair to all and have some rooms in pubs for smokers and some for non-smokers. Of course, non-smokers should be banned from smoking facilities in order to prevent passive smoking. In fact, passive smoking should be declared illegal. I think that it is totally unfair that somebody should be allowed to share in the benefits of smoking without actually buying the tobacco and paying the tax themselves.

I agree, passive smoking should be illegal and those that inflict it on others should be placed in a secure room with no vents!

Despite the ventilation systems, no-smoking areas in pubs are about as much use as no-p1551ng areas in swimming pools. In the case of Wetherspoons, who have several places in the same city, I feel sure that it would be in their interests to make one of them entirely smoke free.
