i'm no great expert but apparently the vikings have had a bit of a bad press. they're not all the raping, pillaging marauders that they are often portrayed as. many of them were farmers who came to britain to settle. they did have quite an evolved legal system and many of the raids were done, so they thought, legitimately as they believed vikings had a claim on the english throne.
perhaps one thing they did which is not greatly publicised is they were massive tradesmen and it is believed even went as far as india to trade something that helped increase wealth and knowledge, and perhaps cement britain's reputation as a seafaring nation.
