Sorry again fluff. Soo, this calibre software works for a Kindle? Interesting.
I have a sony erearder and I can down load books from the library ,I would go on your local council site they have a list of devises you can download onto , remember to watch for the symbol applicable to your reader as there are often more than one version of book to down load. Good luck I love mine.

the sony one is the one i heard about nanny, whats it like
At least when you download free books from the library the author gets the royalties they are due, unlike buying cds from eBay which are ripping the author off.

I love my Sony eReader. It doesn't have wifi but I don't need it. It has built in memory and memory card slots so it holds literally thousands of books.

It will read Kindle books. Download books to pc, transfer them to the reader via usb. This means I have a fully backed up library on my pc in case something happens to my eReader.

I have had mine for 4 or 5 years, the Sony PRS 505. You can buy it nearly new on eBay for around £40.
If you get an iPad you can download a Kindle e-reader and lots of other ones. :)
An iPad is far more expensive than an eReader, not as convenient because you can't put it in your pocket and the battery life is far shorter.
Not only that, reading a book on an iPad causes glare which can be tiring on the eyes whereas an eReader uses e-ink and usually doesn't have a back light.
I know, but you can do sooooo much more on an iPad too. Mine tucks nicely into my handbag and I don't find the backlight too bright. I change the contrast if I need to.

Just offering another option up :)

i'm thinking about this one???
some libraries do support the kindle format. i think the most sensible starting place would be to contact your library and ask them what formats they support
Just checked birmingham they do everything except Kindle by the look of it...e- book loans are for the same length of time as normal loans and you have to wait for popular titles...
i have a feeling hampshire support kindle
excuse me fluff.. bednobs. how are "things" with you. ( i know you may well ignore my question ) which i^d understand.

ive checked staff library and they don;t support kindle. i quite like the look of the vox. i might nip to smiths later see if i can get to play with one
Glad I sort of helped!! A thank you might be nice! And moving the books from CD to the device is just the same as dragging and dropping between any folders on your PC - your e-reader will cannot to your PC and will prompt you to download it's software, then you can run the CD anjust drag the books you want across to the library file for your e-reader. Good luck.
Sorry Mcfluff, I had to vacate the pc , I love my sony e reader I have had it for nearly3 years. I bought a leather cover with a night reading light and it feels exactly the same as a small book . I also bought a plastic screen saver ( abit of sticky plastic that stops you scratching it) Its dead use and I havent had any problems with it. Its worth adding the cover etc and a seperatpower supply adapter if you are going abroad. I suppose it depends how much you read -me on hols I used to take atleast 5 books for a fortnight and still have to go to the book swop!
Down loading from the library is dead easy in West Berks you can goon a waiting list for ebooks too. Do give it a try.

Wouldn't do without my Kindle and have never had to ay too much for books. Get a lot free actually. Great lying in bed with Kindle propped up on a cushion, just tap the screen to turn the pages, heaven!
