Cavity wall insulation being done tomorrow--panicking now

They came to see me months ago and I heard no more so I assumed they were not coming. They rang this afternoon to ask if they can do it tomorrow morning.I am worried now (apart from having to clear the garage which looks like it should be on the Hoarders programme) is it the right thing to do or will it cause more trouble than its worth. These things always happen when my husband is away.What do other ABers think,am I being silly.

You should hopefully have no problems - we had ours done several years ago, and have never regretted it. In fact I was only given a day's notice as well, and things worked out fine.

We had it done a few years back. No problem they just turn up ,drill a hole or two in the outside wall and pump the foam in, only takes an hour at most. It defiately is worth it to save on the heating bills.

Our garage adjoins the house so they have to get in there to do one of the walls and it really is awfully untidy at the moment,its one of those jobs I keep putting off.

I had mine done three years ago and it was no trouble at all. The only thing I was told to move was anything on a windowsill or outside wall which might fall with the vibration of the drilling which didn't last long at all and wasnt a problem.

Don't worry about the state of your garage, they'll have seen worse. (I bet my garage is far worse than yours.)

Seriously, I can get to the fridge and the booze and that's it. Have never been able to get to the chest freezer since we have lived here. It's on the to-do list for September when thing 1 and thing 2 start school (and I have to fill mayday with meaningless tasks to keep me busy).

I had this done years ago. The installers just drill a few holes in the outside wall and pump insulating material into the cavity.

In the twenty six years we've lived here the car has Never been in the garage. I think I've got a rubbish gremlin living in there no matter how much I tidy it up the next time I open the door it's full again.

cavity wall is quick and easy to do, and leaves hardly any mess. our house seemed a little warmer this winter after we had it done last summer. Dont worry about your garage, youre not alone by sthe sounds of all the answers above. my question has to be is there anyone out there that actually keeps their car in their garage lol

We had wall insulation done approx 4 years ago. Ever since we have been plagued with damp, the lounge is so bad we don't use it.
I have tried all sorts of remedies--none of which worked.Worse thing we ever had done.
Sorry to give the other side of the story. I should add that we live close to the sea and are on the water table level and this does not help.

Update. Job done ,took all day because it was one man on his own (kept him well supplied with coffee and bacon sandwiches) and he did'nt turn a hair when I reluctantly opened the garage."No problem" he said,and I swear the house feels warmer today. Thanks everyone for your comments and advice.
