Returning goods
I bought light bulbs and wished to return these as although they fit the electric fitting they do not fit in the space in the ceiling. The shopkeeper states as there is no problem with the bulbs he does not have to give me my money back. Is this correct, would I have to take a credit note if offered?

Yes it is correct. Unless the bulbs are faulty (which they aren't) then he doesn't have to give you a refund of any kind, cash or credit note.
It' s not the retailers problem that they don't fit in your ceiling space.

Consumer law is a growth area but you do not have the right to just change your mind which is probably what the shopkeeper thinks you have done, if you explained how you intended to use the bulbs and where given an assurance these bulbs would suit your purpose you would have a claim, if not as everyone says you do not have any legal remedy.

Assume you are referring to the distance selling regulations oj2 which have no part to play in this transaction as the questioner refers to dealing with a shopkeeper. You are probably aware you have 7 days to return goods under the distance selling regulations, as you have not had the opportunity to examine the goods before purchase.
