Why are all new people treated with suspicion? We were all new at one point.
Were you welcome when you first joined or have you a different story to tell?
I asked a question, my first post, still don't know if it's been answered but hung around for a while. Enjoyed watching the banter in CB, replid in a thread and I completely misunderstood the humour. Problem soon resolved tho.
Now I just get on peoples nerves :-)
When I first joined all my questions were to do with the Guardian prize crossword, on Saturdays.
I used to make some daft mistakes, wrong numbers, putting across instead of down etc. I was nervous about getting it wrong and so kept getting it wrong. However, no one was ever rude to me, they all helped me and nobody made me feel like an irritating newcomer.
When I first came on here there were a few spelling police and grammar generals about an that made it slightly unpleasant occasionally, but on the whole I was made to feel very welcome.
I asked a gardening question when I joined. I got rather a snotty comment from one person to the effect that "you could have Googled this", but it didn't put me off.
but i only respond in my (unofficial and unpaid) capacity as a grammer general when the questionperson reckons they are completing some sort of academic work ...
