I have got one of those wheat bags you heat up in the microwave and that gives some relief.Feldene gel is quite good too.I have had physio too which helps.
Keep moving and a stiff drink is my motto.
Sorry about your painful spondylosis Andy,I have a friend with it and the only thing that gave her any relief was a drug which is actually only by hospital prescription;in fact it was some time ago that I was able to arrange it for her so it is possible it may no longer be used.It is phenylbutazoladine,I think that is how you spell it!, but I think that the side effects can be a bit daunting and the patient needs to be monitored carefully.Perhaps your Dr. could give you some co-proxamol or something of that ilk.Having said that co-proxamol is being gradually withdrawn and will eventually only be available to named patients, but it is quite effective in the absence stronger controlled drugs.
My husband suffers with severe arthritis and --like shaneystar does not take any anti-inflamatory drugs due to a perforated duodenal ulcer two years back. The only thing he takes now is co-proxamol for the pain, but he recently started taking Yucca schedigera in capsule form and I must say the effect has been astonishing.
The saponins in this food supplement behave like steroids but without the attendant side-effects and just two capsules a day has had a miraculous effect on both his mobility and the pain.I realize that your complaint is a little different to arthritis but it might be worth a try.
I will keep an eye on your posting and if you would like any further information,I will gladly point you in the right direction.
Also Andy I was told by the physiotherapist that good posture helps with the neck. Don't slump in your armchair..sit up straight !!
Also I have an orthapedic pillow and a neck pillow which supports the neck if you are sitting watching TV or reading in bed.
But .. I know how you feel ..it is jolly painful. I have a job to turn my head from left to right. It's no wonder people give me a strange look when I turn myself bodily to see what's coming as I cross the road !!
Hi Andy, its me again.Just read Shaneystars second comment, and I mentioned to my husband that your spondylosis was bothering you and he said that although his is not spondylosis he does have arthritis in his spine and some years back, had decompression surgery, this has left him with a bad neck and base of spine both of which responded well to the Yucca treatment.Perhaps it would be worth a try for you.I will give you the address of the firm we order from and if you want to give it a try its a very simple treatment which of course does not involve drugs.
The address is as follows;New Millenium Health,Postbus 3946,4800 DX BREDA,The Netherlands. For six months treatment the cost is 36,for four months30 for two months 25 and for one month16.
The reason I have written all this down is because they have neither a websit or a telephone number! but it is
all in order I assure you,I have photocopied so many order forms for friends that I eventually wrote a letter to them explaining where all the extra orders were coming from!!
We were sent the information through the post originally and were going to file it in the bin! however, something made me order some to try --after looking it up on the net--- and I have to say it is the best move we have made in years, the difference in the quality of life for my husband is amazing.
Good luck if you decide to try it.
