At the age of twelve I stated at my new grammer school and won the school writting competion and my prize was a Sheaffer fountain pen and Pencil set which I always used up to 2000 when I had a stroke which left me barely able to use a pen but the set still has pride of place on my desk and I still try to use it when writing to family and close friends who can still decipher my scrawl. Incidently we've tried to pass on the skill to the kids in the family and they can make a pretty good job of it when they have to. My niece who was twenty one last week hand wrote every invitation and her future in laws couldn't believe, it especially when I told them All The Family would write like that if they had to write instead of texting it took a demonstation of all the family members present to convince them .
