The main advantage of the contactless credit card is that, whereas before, crooks had to go to all the trouble of installing skimming equipment at ATMs, petrol pumps, etc., now they can just lurk near the checkout with their radio receivers.

I wouldn't want one of these either, what is the limit before you need to enter a pin number?
no, you don't have to use it. It usually means you can just wave them at a reader, like an Oyster travel card in London, rather than queuing to pay and put your card in a machine and fill in your PIN. But nobody's forcing you to save time.

I've got a contactless credit card but I've never yet remembered to try it.
I have one,did not have a problem until I spent £9.43 which came up n(not authorised) and i was made to put it through again. When I checked my bank this £9.43 had come off twice straight after each other.Queried this with bank(could they not stop this happening) no was the answer it was up to ourselves to check bank details.I got a copy of statement and got a refund from shop where I had spent my money. My point is how many times is this happening to people that are not inclined to check their banks.

Get in touch with your provider and ask them if they provide a contactless version. If not, vote with your feet.

to jno i have tried the noto0870 but still cannot get a freephone or local number
Can you not go to your local branch and demand to see the manager ?

Do they warn you they have slipped contactless functionality into your replacement card, in a way that you can't miss it ? I dislike all this sort of thing, personally. Too much is forced on us no matter what additional risk or intrusion to ourselves.

hi to you old_geezer.i will go into branch if i get no joy by return email.i think we should be given a choice.i am not going to use the card i will leave barclays if i dont get a choice.i want some explanations then perhaps i will feel better about this.perhaps i am too cynical i dont know,i have been caught once by someone helping thereselves to my card details so guess i am now very wary.oh by the way sorry to go on & on
My wife got one of these from Barclays bank and as a protest closed her account and moved to NatWest.

If enough people did that they would soon stop doing it.
any of you on the electric yet?
You can still choose to place your card in the machine and enter your pin, I find the contact less pretty convenient at times.
