Mum just asked what hymns we should have at my Nan's service and we both agreed that we don't want past choices, namely The Lord Is My Shepherd and Jerusalem.

We would like two bright and uplifting hymns - all suggestions much appreciated.

Also, could anyone suggest a nice song to play at the end? She loved music by Sinatra, Dean Martin, Andy Williams et al.

Many thank, and huge thanks to everyone for the kind messages in B&S.

I, too was going to recommend cupid04's selection. Here's a new and touching recording of it by a young guy here in the U.S.

NoM, my Mum wants this one when it's her time: http://www.worshipwor...long-the-world-i-go/. It certainly ticks the bright and uplifting boxes.

Difficult to pick a song for the end without knowing her, but did she have a good sense of humour? If so, Sinatra's "You Make Me Feel So Young" might be approrpiate :-)
NoM. The lyrics to "To Where You Are" are beautiful.x
At my hubbys funeral we hadAll things bright and beautiful, and the song we had afterwards was "iam sailing " by Rod Stewart.
My friend sang this at my Dads funeral. Had the whole congregation in tears....

She changed the words to suit...
so sorry to read about your nan,at my brothers funeral last year his final song was andrea bocelli'because we believe'.after the funeral everyone was asking who it was, saying it was beautiful and very fitting,if you find it on google you need to listen to it all as most is in english.take care.
You knew what nan liked and probably would have wanted - i have requested when it is my turn to have Il Divo - Time to say Goodbye and Elgars Nimrod. Keep strong for all the family Nom - my thoughts are with you all♥
My sincere condolences NoM, you've been in my prayers. At my late step father's funeral (a humanist ceremony) he wanted Smile, (Nat king Cole) and John Lennon's Imagine. We also had a reading of a poem, "Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there I do not sleep....." I can get the entire text for you if you would like it, I want it at my own funeral and I want the hymn The Holy City, I find it uplifting don't know why. There are some wonderful suggestions from your fellow ABer's and I'm sure you'll find something that your Nan would have loved
Sorry to hear about your Nan,NoMercy. My favourites have already been suggested. i know you don't want The Lord's My Shepherd but the latest version of it is really lovely-you can hear it on you tube .How Great Thou Art is very popular and most people know it.Barmaid's choice of Time To Say Goodbye. We all had to smile at the end of my S-i-l's funeral. They played The Great Escape!! because she was forever "escaping" from her care home.
We had Moonlight Serenade by Glenn Miller , a Frank Sinatra song the title of which escapes me for now and the hymn Guide me o thou great redeemer.
sorry for your loss no mercy xx

was going to suggest Jerusalem as it's my favourite, but saw you don't want that.

The old rugged cross is beautiful it was my nan's favourite, we played it at her funeral. Still remember the times I used to hear her singing it.

Morning has broken is also a favourite for funerals.

Take care xx
We sing a great new modern version to "The Lord's My Shepherd" in our church, written by Stuart Townend, which is getting very popular now...............and is often on Songs of Praise (see video clip) the words and chorus especially will bring you comfort ........
