Continual viral infections in child

Two to three weeks ago my very healthy 6 year picked up a tummy bug. He was sick with d&v for two days. HE was clear for 48 hours returned to school and of an evening had a fever but better by morning. This happened a few times until last monday when I had a phone call from the school saying he had a temperature. When I got there he was in his coat, jumper with no drink and appeared very drowsy. He seemed very hot so I stripped him off and called the doctor. At the doctors his temperature hit 41.8 he became unresponsive and she called an ambulance. To cut the story short he had "a virus" they got his temperature down over the next 24 hours and he came home.

For the following week he has had what seemed like a bit of a cold. Tonight he has been up with an ear ache. The boy is never normally ill.... Why is he sick all the time at the moment. HEs never recovering for anything before something else starts? I will of course be taking him to the doctors.

Aged 6years old, mixing with other kids....they tend at this age to pick up anything and everything going.

Ibuprofen 100mgms in liquid form three times a day if necessary should do the trick.

The earache is just one aspect of an upper respiratory tract infection and should not cause concern even without the use of antibiotics.

Do you think its just part of the virus then Sqad, cause Ive worked about 3 shifts in the last 2 weeks. He has been coldy since his little episode last week.

No it sounds two virus infections.......both common "bugs"

If you GP is worried about any underlying problems making him particularly susceptible to infections, then he will arrange a simple blood test.

Doesn't sound a big deal from where i am sitting..........don't worry.

I work with 2 - 11 year olds and believe me, when one kids gets something all the others do as well and sometimes it ends up right back at the child who infected them all to start with lol
When my youngest was 6 she had really had much time off 'ill', just the odd temperature here and there but during her year 1 she got everything going and even came down with pneumonia over Xmas but since then, touch wood, she has had a few days this year with tonsillitis but apart from that she went back to the odd day after that bout in yr 1
Make sure he is 100% before you send him back - if he has a temp in the evening, dont send him in the next day, I cant tell you how many times we send kids back home when parents have done this
If he needs Calpol/nurofen before school, he isnt fit enough for school - that's what we tell our parents anyway

Okie dokes, thanks muchly. He had blood tests and all sorts last week and they said they werent normal but they weren't indicating anything other than a viral infection. So i wasnt concerned about him being seriously sick. I think its just that panic about work, I know that sounds bad but cutting it as the single working parent is a bit ERK at times. Thanks again though.

My daughter used to get a temperature and mild fever every time she got a cold bug. It used to really worry me as it didn't seem normal.

She is now 13, and has grown out of that phase. I guess it is all part of them building up their immune system.
