Laptop problem

Finally got my PC up and running but it took over half hour.When i start up I get a message "cannot detect hard drive" and windows switches itself off.After many attempts it starts normally.Any ideas please as to what is causing this.
prev Multiple Home/desktops on PC.

Check power connections to HDD and connection from HDD to Motherboard. Sounds like your HDD is either beginning to fail or a flaky connection.

Sounds like your hard drive is faulty. If you can take it out and test using an external caddy on another PC this will determine whether it is working or not?
