Pointless lessons from school

A post about starch last night reminded me of stuff I was taught at school that for me at least I found pointless - all from domestic science and included:
Making starch from powder and then washing and ironing a shirt
How to clean our teeth
Washing a hairbrush and comb
tailor tacking (major yawn)
Potato soup

What do you think you were taught at school that was pointless in later life? You are not allowed to say Maths - never pointless IMO.

I always resented being expected to take a nap on a camp bed after lunch at infant school. Never complied. Whatwas I supposed to learn from it?

No joko. Had to leave the emulsion on. It was the Home Ec flat where girls were taught how to clean.Can`t recall what I did but it must have been a punishment because learning how to Brillo Pad a wall....bottom to top....no streaks can`t have been on any curriculum. Never had call to put that skill to use since. Nuns!

didn't mind lessions on whatever subject (we never did what is known as home economics) but i really hated having to run round the school playing field to "warm-up" in winter before we started playing hockey or netball. complete waste of energy.

The only thing I remember from Physics was how to change a plug, I never had any troubles with sewing, I just picked up a needle and away I went, knitting however, was another story I've never mastered that one, maybe because I'm left handed.

Playing netball on playing fields, remember those, where the wind screamed across the valley, with a PE teacher in a sheepskin coat,hat, glove and boots telling us it wasn't cold.
Stop picking on Maths, I used all of those things all my working life!

Not RC but taught in secondary and primary convent schools abroad and in this country. The teaching nuns were highly knowledgeable, understanding and prepared to take risks for their pupils. Some of my happiest memories of a long teaching career.

cocoa from scratch... how to hand wash cotton could see the point of learning to hand wash wool... venn diagrams, matrices, playing the recorder..
how to balance on the bar of an upturned bench... the list is endless
