Hope all you lucky English people are enjoying your bank holiday. Crazy system here in Scotland - everyone at work today as we don't get bank holidays - but off tomorrow for the jubilee holiday. Seems a shame to split a long weekend but... Not to worry, the sun is shining in a clear blue sky and all's well with the world (well my world anyway and I'm happy here).

Yes, but you get an extra day to get over your Hogmanay hangovers
I hadn't realised that but I assume it's because you have an extra day at New Year
Never mind when Scotland becomes independent than surely Alex Salmond can vote in however many bank holidays he likes.
em10, they wont be able to afford any holidays then !

Oh ye of little faith Tony! Mind we do get St. Andrews day and the schools are closed today for "in-service". Pity the parents have to work though.
not sunny in ayrshire :(
maggie, why don't you guys get Whit monday off ( it is Whit Monday isn't it today ? ).
it won't be full independence though will it. Not an actual annexe of Scotland from England. Just in name, with fringe benefits. I was listening to the radio the other day, and most of those interviewed from Scotland were not in favour of Independence, rather that we stayed as The United Kingdom.
May 28th was Whit Monday according to an article i had a look at.
Thats what I thought em.
It's a bit mental especially as a government department, we can't get much done when there are public holidays. There are 8 public holidays (9 this year) which are generally matched across the country but it's the 2.5 privilege holiday days which screw things up. Whit Monday, Queens Birthday and Maunday Thursday can be taken to match a local holiday. Government departments in Scotland also have permission to match or transfer two more to cover local holidays one of which being the 2nd January. It's a pain in the backside really national organisation should be matching PH's with their HQ, especially if that is in England.

St Andrews day is not a PH...... yet though got help us if Salmond, Sheridan's old gang and the Greenies get their way!!
