I'm about to start making Delias chocolate truffle torte but have no rum! Do you think Cointreau instead would be ok?

Why not ? Variations on a theme are what experts try anyway. They won't be the same but even not seeing the recipe I suspect they would still be nice.

liqueurs can have a higher sugar content but not enough to make a huge difference...
