Hi hope you don't mind me posing a question but I would appreciate your help.
I went into hospital for the day on Monday I found out my BP is high over a two hour period it was 193/74 201/94 & 187/89 I was told to go to my GP immed. When my GP took my BP it was 177/100 he has given me Amlodipine 10mg take one every day and Methyldopa 250mg take
three times each day is this not abit OTT? I cannot keep my eyes open got up at 8 this morning been asleep for 3 1/2 hours due to take another tablet soon I will be a sleep again! I have to go back to my GP tomorrow to had my BP taken again I work full time I have taken this week off sick (first time in years) I will not be able to go back next week if I stay on these tables or is it just a case of getting used to them?
I dont'd know if age is a factor in this I was 57 on Sunday I have been feeling light headed but I put this down to a head cold 3-4 weeks ago my eyes have been blurred I put this down to needing new glasses had my eyes tested on Saturday. I need to get this back on track my mother had a stroke when she was only 49 which she never got the use back in her arm.
Many Thanks

Amlidopine 10mgms daily and Methyldopa 250 mgms three times a day is the standard treatment until the maintenance dose is achieved. If I was in your situation, i would buy a BP machine from Boots or somewhere and monitor my BP morning afternoon and night.
It may take weeks for your body to tell you the required dose.
Don't be impatient.
You may need to "up the dose" or decrease the dose of methyldopa depending upon the response.
Trial and error........it will take time.

Certainly follow the advice from your doctor, but also reduce as much salt from your diet as you possibly can. Do not add salt to your food at the table at all, and try to eliminate it from cooking as well. Following this (Doctor's) advice, and monitoring my BP carefully, I have reduced my drug intake (Telmasartin / Micardis) by 75% over the last 3 months.
