I'm sure Coyn is right about it being a confederate flag, the design of which actually changed over time. It's even more complicated cos different regiments had different designs !

yep probably, given that Georgia was one of the confederate states.... Dolly Parton was rumoured to have been offered the job of Pauline in the Dukes..... but I think that's another story for another night....

The flag is actually The Confederate Navy Jack, also called "The Southern Cross" (colloquially called the "Rebel Flag"). I believe Mississipi state flag still includes the emblem.
