I must admit to being a staunch Royalist, but this type of stomach turning and condescending claptrap make one want to heave?

So the Duchess of Cambridge mucked in with children from inner-city backgrounds? Yes I am sure she did being well equipped for her visit with a pair of green Burberry wellies, blue Zara jeans, a green Burberry blouse, green Zara jumper and a Really Wild green leather waistcoat.

I am all in agreement with these kids getting into the countryside and enjoying themselves, but I am sure they would have got along fine, by being accompanied by just their usual teachers.

Is it not time the media drew away from this type of royal idol worship, or are they trying to turn her into another Princess Diana?

The media are feeding a need. The Duchess of Cambridge doesn't seem to be generating the same level of adoration that Diana had - something like that can't be forced. It just...happens.

However, I see no difference in the way she's reported to, say, the positive articles printed about the Queen whenever she goes on a royal tour.

Personally I preferred reading about the car crash that was Sarah Ferguson. She was HILARIOUS.

IMHO i think it's the type of charity work they both want to complete (started of course by their mother and others before her)!

of course they are. Diana was a godsend for the media. She stills sells lots of Expresses.

sp1814, I think she gets a lot more coverage than the queen, but that may be because she does more things, and more varied things. Coverage of the queen tends to be for special occasions; you can't write this sort of guff about the routine occasions when HM dines with President Mahoofly of Polonia.

It's last chance saloon for the press to capitalise on glamorous young royals as there are no other prospects on the horizon. Do not forget that given the longevity of the current dynasty Prince William will be pushing the age Prince Charles is now before he gets a chance at the throne, by which time neither he nor his wife will be the pretty young things they are now.

The papers also want to make her seem like one of us,in that 'we' can afford the same clothes as she-royalty0 can. I don't think she can be another Diana-she's most likely too savvy about the press.

I bought a mag at the railway station the other day, in desperation - I threw it away, what a load of rot. But then I've never been a celebrity follower. I don't think they are turning Kate into her mother-in-law - Kate's beautiful, she's young and inteligent, most people like to see her.

You can't help feeling 'its a lull before the storm'. Give it a bit more time and the press will be criticing her like mad. In fact there was a sly dig about her wellies costing £300 so maybe thats the start of the rot.
