Camping with kids

Thinking of taking the grankids camping age 7 and 4. Never been before, not sure how to narrow it down,there are loads of campsites. Wanting to stay in Angus only for a couple of nights, anyone been camping and have any tips on what sites to look for and what to do with them at night. Can borrow a 6 man tent and sleeping bags,so that at least is sorted.

If you have room have a 'trial' camp in the back garden before you go on the 'real thing' It shows up what to expect and how to get over the worst problems.

The trial run in the garden sounds like a great idea FC. It'll give you a chance to familiarize yourself with the tent and it'll still be a big adventure for the grandchildren.

your grandkids might actually be perfectly happy just camping in your garden without the need to go further away and be surrounded by cows.

I've only ever camped at festivals. It's a needs must. I would never chose to do it.

Our kids used to have 'sleep overs' with their friends but it was in a tent in the back garden. They could always come in and sleep in the living room if it got too cold or wet. They loved it as did the friends.

I wouldn't worry too much about what to do in the evening. At that age, if they have never camped before, the whole thing will be such an adventure, even the simple fact of sleeping in a tent should get them into bed early!
Take note of Eddie's advice re a trial run, if you struggle putting the tent up on the campsite you will get offers of help, but not before you have provided a decent amount of entertainment for the other campers:)
