My niece has just been on and shes picked up a trojan (i don't know any details) put apparently it's locked her computer and wants £100.00 to unlock it. Before I go round to see if I can sort it, how do I get it started in safe mode so I can run malwarebites through it?

Thanks mate, I've phoned her up and told her what to do to start it up and run malewarebytes and hopefully she'll short it, or it's a twenty round trip so it will have to wait till tomorrow.
switch on p c and watch carefully the black and white sites, look for "safe mode" click enter and follow instructions. liz davis
I have picked that one up recently too.
I had a hell of a job as it froze the screen and just had the wallpaper and mouse cursor visible.
I managed eventually by blatting f8 on startup to get into safe mode and get system restore going.
That did it ok.
Then I used Malaware bytes and McAfee Stinger.
It is OK now but I wonder if there is something lurking there.....
You will find help here on how to remove the Trojan Manually:
