Can hay fever give you a cough? I have been coughing for ages and am wondering if I have developed hay fever rather than a virus. Thanks

Hi, I have a very peculiar version of hay fever. Extremely itchy eys but no runny nose or sneezing. However I do have a strange cough as though I'm trying to clear my throat all the time. BTW I developed hay fever in my late 30's. I now take Fexofenadine after trying all the "over-the-counter" treatments, and it's brilliant. Have a visit to your GP. I don't think you're supposed to ignore persistent coughs anyway.
Indeed, cough is often a prominent feature of "hay fever."

You haven't said what you mean by "ages" but if it persists for more than six weeks and providing there is no blood in your sputum, see your GP.

Saw gp in April, was not infected. Eased off but never really went away, but has got worse again this week. Still coughing up but I know its not infected so was wondering about hay fever rather than virus.
Well, the cough has persisted for more than 6 weeks, so I should return to your GP.

A chest X-Ray may be indicated.
