i was told that watercolour was the most skillfull of paint art forms because mistakes are very very difficult to correct -is this true?

Yes it is supposed to be true... People say that once you've mastered watercolour yo will find acrylic and oils etc pretty easy, but if you approach it from the other way, ie. master acrylics etc first, you will then find it a lot more difficult to become good at watercolour.

A possible reason for this is because with acrylics etc they are opaque so therefore you can easily paint over the top of mistakes, but as watercolours are translucent, this is very difficult and can only be done if you are laying a darker colour over the top.
