After a full stop?

"Is this correct?" asked Stephen. or "Is this correct?" Stephen asked. I always thought that where there was a full stop, as in the question mark, the following word had to have a capital letter, but which of the two examples is correct? Ta (or ta) Muchly.

The words in the quotation marks are part of a bigger sentence. So first example is correct.

A capital letter need not follow a question mark but both examples are correct only because a personal name has been used.

Both are correct. In this instance the question mark is replacing what would normally be a comma, not a full stop.

It was just a bit of a surprise having looked at your website to see someone who looks like Big Jim Sullivan (if you don't know he was a big guitarist in the '70's) with an assistance dog in Guildford.

The Mark Steel programme is worth checking out, the ones I've heard have been very good.
