I cant knit (yet) but i can cast in doing the thumb thingy :0D ha x
Knitting needle in one hand, use the thumb on other hand as a knitting needle. (I hate that method)
I find it tricky to keep a correct tension.
A few tips before I vanish, (if I get them round the right way)

If you knit slack, use a smaller gauge of needle and the other way round if tight.

Must go for now tho.
I also prefer the two needle cast on method - but another tip - I usually use the K1 P1 version rather than all Knit which gives a nice springy (?) edge
I've always used the thumb thingy one - gives a firmer edge, I think !! :D

Ahhhhh, thanks for that link. My mum taught me the two needle way, but have just copied that video and thats easier I think.

Not sure why pattern suggests that way - am sure I will find out later on!

Think we should set up an AB knitting club - tinks can be the baby member : )
A knitting club would be a very good idea.
I'm in !!

Great! Nobody else seems to come here into hobbies so it would be exclusive lol.
And you more experienced ones can share your tips and I can show my new efforts. Have just started a little bolero for baby yesterday. But for 6-12 month size so she can wear it in the autumn/winter.
I'll join in if I may ..I like knitting .
The more the merrier Shaney.

Smow, it's all yours. Start the thread hun, please. Whenever it's convenient for you, of course. Your idea, you da boss :-D
Good idea. I`m in the club.
Does Shoota know ?

<runs and hides>
I made it plain Alba, he thought I was ribbing, then turned his heel and cast off.
aran him off this morning :-)

Must go for now.. Later xxxx
Tee-hee at gness and alba.
Smowball - It makes a neater edge if you cast on using the thumb method. Using two needles makes an open, lacy sort of edge. Don't know why this should be, but it just is.
I can't do that. My thumbs are weird tho. Manly hands I s'pose.
Casting on, I put the needle between the stiches, if that makes sense, rather than create a stitch on it's own.

I'd completely forgotten how good it is to create something.
