My pal recently had her computer 'cleaned up', defragged and the like and since then has not been able to use the computer to watch films from the hard drive onto the tv. Which she did before with no problem.

Using the hard drive on another monitor, it all works fine.

she is using a VGA cable, is this ok or should it be an HDMI or is this irrelevant..? We are both wading through the mire of technology, neither of us very sure where to start or what to do.

When starting up the computer, the windows screen appears and then all goes black... using windows XP.

Any help hugely appreciated x

By the way the TV is a Toshiba Plasma Model no 42WP46P!!
Does the computer work OK otherwise?

Plugged in elsewhere it works no problem. It just seems to be when rigged up to the tv it doesn't give out a pic. She has it on the PC channel of the tv.
That TV only has a resolution of 854 x 480 so if the computer is set to display higher than that it's not going to work.

Lower the screen resolution to 640 x 480 and then try connecting the TV again, once it's connected and showing a picture see if you can raise the screen resolution to 854 x 480.
