Hi folks ... does anyone know how long the driver of a vehicle has before he must renew his vehicle licence tax? We know of someone whose tax disc ran out yesterday - Does he have 4 weeks' grace to get the tax renewed? I thought it was a month, Mr. Chox isn't so sure.

Would be grateful for clarification if anyone out there knows.

Cheers, Chox.

exactly! the computer knows you ave paid, and so will the authorities if they see your old disc!
I know it says following payment of Tax, but as the person chokkie is referring to tax only ran out yesterday so how does anyone know whether he has paid or not, may just be waiting for it to be delivered.
the correct advice is GET ONLINE NOW!
agree Cath, but disagree with your earlier reply of there being no grace period, on that you were wrong
I've just bought personal number plates but can't put them on until my replacement tax disc arrives. I never even thought about that! Childish I know but can't wait to put them on.
there is no grace period and the road fund license 'cover' needs to be continuous ... the so called 'grace period' is for the non-display of the correctly purchased disc via the internet!
If it's just a neighbour and you don't know the details beyond seeing the expired disc on the windscreen, he could well have the new disc but hasn't got round to putting it in the car - just like me! I'd best nip out and do it now...
if he buys it later in the month it will still expire 6 or 12 months from 1st july, if he drives it on the road before he has either applied and paid online or renewed at the post office he's not legally driving the car, the offence is 'not displaying a valid road fund license', even if the disc is sitting at home the law is still being broken.
Bakers Dozen what is your new personal plate number ? I have T6DEE and I change it over when I get a new car its a bit of a problem doing the transfer but then I have only had to do it once so far.
