Yes, but not particulalry gifted ones if this tournament is anything to go by. I thought Germany were, but Italy proved that wrong.

I don't see where you're going with this one Mick, because all teams in all eras will compete against teams of reasonably comparable levels of sports technology and preparation.

The fact the modern age has much better...

Consistency of Brazil teams Mick????

World Cup winners 1958 in Sweden when they became the first team to win it outside of their home continent, then again in 1962 in Chile, kicked out of it in 1966 when somebody called England won it, and then the majestic 1970 team in Mexico.

Not that I'm taking anything away from a superb Spanish team.
There's little doubt that Spain have, to use the pundit's vernacular, bossed the game and for the last third they have simply been toying with the Italians...

The Brazil team that won the 1970 world cup ......won what else ?

That team would also struggle to get the ball off this Spanish team.
The stats behing this team are sensational .
Campiones, campiones olé, olé, olé
Yes, they've certainly put in a shift.
Well done Spain *sob sob sob* lol
beautiful game

You asked for consistency - I gave it to you!

As I said, comparing different eras is futile, and I have no doubt this much better prepared and more athletic Spanish team would prevail, mainly because the modern game is so much faster and players are fitter.

I would hazard a guess that statistics would say Barca were the better teams against Chelsea, but they won the Champions League.

So therefore Duncer ...this Spanish team iare playing against much better prepared and more athletic teams than the 70's Brazil team.

The fact the modern age has much better prepared teams means the comparison with Brazil is futile, just as comapring the magnificent five in a row European Cup winning Real Madrid team with this year's winners, Chelsea, would be. That is not to even suggest that I would ever put Chelski in the same bracket as Real.
No, they have discovered that if they keep possesion the other team can't score.

I seem to recall Brian Clough had noticed that some years ago.

Pmsl ....I have given you best answer ,...... Bloody fat fingers on this iPad .

I was trying to C&P this

Yes, but not particulalry gifted ones

Lol lol
Mick, when I said "not particularly gifted ones" I was, of course, exempting Spain from that remark. Germany looked good initially but, ultimately, they flattered to decieve. Lots of disappointments, such as the talented but probably squabbling Dutch. Spain beat those in front of them, and did it with consumate style in the Final, so hats off to them.
