Missing friends status posts on Facebook

Please can someone tell me how to get Facebook to show ALL my friends' updates on my newsfeed. So many of mine don't show up except in the wee ticker thing in the top right.
I was given advice to make sure most recent posts thing was clicked then I would get a drop down menu with the option to edit settings to show posts from everyone, but I don't get the drop-down menu thing. Please help. So many folk think I am ignoring them LOL

Facebook has added new feature to get all updates of particular friend. If you want to get status update as news feed then you have to follow mentioned status.
1. Go on you friends Profile/Timeline
2. Find Subscribe button & click on it
That’s it.
Now, you can get all information about your friends status update. If you want to get notification about another friend’s status update then you can also do it with these steps.
