Muggers to prison.....not!

So the lord chief Justice is saying that teenage muggers shouldn't go to jail if they wern't "too vicious". What planet do these judges inhabit? vicious or not they should be jailed. I mean what next armed robbers not going to jail if they are not too impolite when stuffing the shot gun in your face. Can we please stop this liberal cobblers and get back to punishing criminals. Bit of a rant! What do others think?

Muggers should go to jail and get their arses ticked by somebody, then they are less likely to take a chance and go back in.

when ever more prisons are built, and ever more people put in them, we pay for it all. There are better solutions. Community service is one - there's plenty of work that needs doing, and it would be nice to have it done free. Weekend detention is another: people can work during the week, thus contributing to society, but spend their weekends locked up (or on community service), lessening their opportunities for getting into more trouble. Instead of seeing this as a chance to throw them all into dungeons, why not look on it as an opportunity to make them grow up and work for the public good?

That's why our prisons should be like Thai prisons. 100 to one cell. They are having a good laugh doing a bit of community work. They don't necessarily repent, they think they got off lightly and will reoffend.

If they're doing community service can i suggest that they clean up my local park? I like the idea of chain gangs of litter pickers, and graffiti scrubbers being forced to give something back.
