Question for DRIVERS only...
46 Answers
Be honest here, when you all first passed your test, and got your very first car, how did you feel? I've recently passed my test and after learning in a diesel, I bought a petrol car, I stall all the time, I am SO scared to drive and the other day I scratched a car slightly. I hate uphill starts and sometimes roll back....I learnt for over a year, had 4 lessons a week (extensive I know), passed first time, little minors, only now? I feel like I can't drive at all. :( The thought of driving makes me feel sick. I worry about crashing, or killing myself. Please someone tell me this is normal?

My aunt had one lesson, from the local garage mechanic. She then drove from Cambridge to Brighton, a distance of over 100 miles. Only when she got there did she realise that she didn't know how to engage reverse!

I passed my test when I was 19 but I didn't buy a car or drive for around 15 years. I bought myself an automatic a few years back, even though I had a manual licence, and the first time I drove it on my own was a bit scary but I got over it quite quickly.
Why don't you just go round the block on your own and see how you feel.

Don't be nervous. if you have made little minors faults while driving. Nearly everyone gets nervous about taking their driving test , no matter how well prepared they are. It has been observed that people who are usually cool and calm, they also get worried as the day of their driving test day gets nearer and their nervousness gets worse.
People get nervous about taking their test because :
Pressure from friends/family
Fear of failure
Self-doubts and lack of confidence in your driving
Lack of preparation
Previous test failure(s)
