I don't really understand the bidding on ebay. Is the same person just upping the bids?

No ummm, the torch isn't actually selling (as I understand it) - the winners are paying the money but asking for the torch to go back on sale each time, to keep increasing the charity money.

In theory yes, but if you look at the bid history, loads of people are bidding thousands of pounds. The earlier sales finished at reasonable amounts £60-£60 which real people could pay. I hope it's not been hijacked by idiots who don't intend to pay.

I think maybe it has boxtops, then for the last 5 minutes or so the last bidder will be keeping everything crossed it isnt them. Maybe not so good for a very deserving charity in the end!

I dont know anything about e-bay, b ut is there any way they can monitor who the bidders are?

yes, eBay knows who they are, but they don't interfere, this is but one of millions of transactions.

just seen an article about this on bbc news.

it does get posted to new owner .. who then immediately puts it up for sale again..for it's next journey

it has already been from cornwall up to the midlands and back down to dorset.
