Who watched the programme on Channel 4 last night? Here's a link to an article in the Guardian - it's trending on Facebook too. https://apps.facebook...food-is-making-us-fat

The food industry is making money hand over fist while we get fatter; look at the ingredients of any processed food and see the sugar they add.........

Yes-you can eat cheaply and healthily-but too many people have neither the skills or the desire to learn how.
Also-recent studies have shown that some of the main ingredients -wheat in particular-in processed foods -have the same effect on the brain as addictive drugs.
There is a book called 'WheatBelly'-written by an American cardiologist named...

I don't even buy cereal anymore.
lol, Mini Boo has coke on 'special occasions' too, as like Mick I won't have it in the house as she'd drink it 24/7.

I am however guilty of allowing her sweets, cakes, crisps and *shock, horror* processed food :P
Mostly we drink sugar free squashes but I have pepsi max at work just to keep awake .... at least I've weaned myself off the sugar free red bull

Don't get me started on artificial sweeteners! Didn't they ban aspartame in the US? I'd rather have a drink with a little sugar or honey than anything artificial. Have you seen the new sweeteners made from sugar or leaves? They are so processed how they can market them as 'natural' escapes me!
I never add salt to a finished meal, it amazes me to watch the MIL put a mountain of salt and white pepper on her meal ...every meal

What I do like to do though is save up my salt allocation for something like a lettuce sandwich , butter lettuce and an overdose of salt .....love it
I don't put salt on my food either. Loads of black pepper though...

mmm black pepper - even the smell is wonderful :)
Dont eat it then?! I never eat processed rubbish. You might as well eat the contents of a bin or dog food. Its choice. You are not a victim!
"I simply do not buy the crap. I never buy cakes, sweets, biscuits, crisps. The only drinks in the house is usually milkshakes. "

I'm just the same Ummmm. Apart from the crisps, which I do like.

No particular skill needed in making a big pan of "scouse". MMMMMMM Lots and lots of lovely veg. You don't NEED to have meat in it either if you don't want it. Cheap cheap cheap.
We have the occasional packet. They just aren't bought as part as the weekly shop.
i love crisps and i love salt

i'm goign to pig out on a bag of kettle chips now
i didnt see the programme but very rarely use processed foods.... i buy meat and veg and cook from scratch, the only tinned stuff i buy is tomatoes and chickpeas.... i havent used jars of sauces or packet stuff for so long i cant remember last time i used one.... i also cant remember the last time i ate a ready meal but it was maybe occasionally when i was at work and forgot my snap and had to get something from the shop at break time.... and i cringe when my mate makes pies and stuff using tins of meat in gravy (omg) i dont drink fizzy pop or eat biscuits or crisps much, but i do eat chocolate and sweets sometimes....
A few years ago I was diagnosed with angina. Since then, I eat mostly fish, poultry (including duck, turkey and ostrich) and veg. No sugar or animal fats especially butter. Meat once a week max. No processed food. Having seen the enormous arses in the USofA, I wouldn't touch a Big Mac or Coke on principle. Result... weight about right, colesterol low, healthy 75 year-old!

Yeah, but as miserable as sin with it ;-)

Lol, im kidding!

I understand you don't for health reasons however, I don't see anything wrong with having takeaways or fast foods as a treat or a meal on the go when necessary, the problem arises when it becomes the norm and they are all you're eating.
Working full-time I'm too lazy to cook in the evenings so I rely on ready meals for myself. Little Tiggs is fed fresh-cooked meals by the child-minder. I do mix and match though. I cook loads of stuff from scratch some weekends and freeze them in small portions so he has homemade stuff but I also give him Little Dish meals when I don't have time. There is also loads of frozen veg in the freezer which I cook for him so that cuts out the veg preperation. He gets fresh fruit as well. Mangoes are his favourite but they're not particularly cheap :o(
Basically, it's like this, as a species we are lazy and will always take the easy/soft option. This usually means that fast food really is the order of the day, and with little or no thought about the expanding waistline which will be had if we don't change, our habits , we are doomed!

Hey, look what I've just found: a word count, this is good because I have often offered my opinion, but get knocked back because it's too long, just thought that I would draw your attention to that. ;)
