Did some gallery bashing in London yesterday - and wanted to enthuse about the BP competition at the NPG. Amazing pictures and it's a free exhibition too (although please drop a few quid in the donations box - worth every penny).

If you are lucky/unlucky (delete as appropriate) enough to be in London this summer and have an hour to spare, don't miss it :

The five prize winners are only the tip of the ice-berg (and wouldn't even all have been in my top ten) - some of the other pictures are quite stunningly good.

Indeed so jno - the man is an oaf (a cultured oaf, but an oaf nonetheless).

That picture is just screaming with honesty - and the overwhelming reaction from visitors yesterday was positive - admiration for the courage of the sitter and for the brilliance of the artist in capturing her essence.
