I've seen comments here about people using 4 or 5 different browsers. My question is simply, 'WHY?' Does this slow the computer down? Is it not likely to cause damage? Do they only use one browser ata time? I have recently reinstalled FireFox because I wanted to use a couple of particular addons, but I find its reliability to be very questionable. It goes into 'not responding' mode within 3 or 4 minutes EVERY time I try to use it. Should I keep trying or just forget FF? Should I load other browsers like Chrome etc. etc?
One might install them to try and use one on the day as the mood takes you. If you just run one at a time it's less resource. Won't cause damage nor slow down much, resource willing.
All browsers seem to have their own hiccups. If one is being a pain and you can't tell what add-in or whatever is causing it, give it up and try another.
Having more than one browser installed won't cause any problems unless they are running. Just sure that they are not configured to start automatically when the machine boots.
FireFox is going through a period of releasing new version after new version, each of which seems to break something else.
They are separate programs in the same way as a word processor is separate from a picture viewer, and they run when you want them to run.
I personally use Firefox and have just updated to the latest version released today. And browsers, just like most programs, update regularly - Chrome has gone from v16 to v22 this year.
