eBay.....

Hi :o)
Any seasoned eBay sellers? I had a massive clear out and sold most things on eBay. One buyer is saying he hasn't received his purchase (the other buyers who's purchases were dispatched same day have received theirs). I have the proof of posting so I know I can claim from royal mail, but how do eBay justify automatically believing the buyer and how can the seller be sure the buyer isn't pulling a fast one?
Do I just have to concede and refund him with his word?

I have to disagree that eBay is not on the side of the small seller too - we are their bread and butter and they have always been helpful to me, particularly if you do things following their instructions.

There are 2 different things being discussed here, but they often get confused.
A buyer can open a dispute at any time ( I have had one start just an hour after the item arrived) but ebay customer service will not get involved until the 28 days deadline has passed. Before ebay themselves get involved it is personal between the seller and buyer, if they can not resolve it between themselves only then will ebay customer service look at it. Once ebay take it over their descision is final , they will look at all the messages that have passed between buyer and seller and make a descision based on that and statements from each party. Once ebay get on to a case it is out of the hands of buyer and seller , ebay and ebay only make the desciion. I have had ebay resolve disputes twice, both times they found in my favour as the seller.

Boxtops and Eddie your answers are very heartening, I sent the seller a message last night saying what Boxtops had said - they can wait until I've explored all avenues. The message I got this morning from him didn't make for pleasant reading, he's not at all happy LOL.
I'm about to log into ebay and talk to them direct.
DTcrosswordfan - I'm so sorry I missed yourpost last night, I was using my phone to log in and didn't see you snuggled in there xx Sqad has a weakness for what?

Seems Elvis was right, I don't know what was originally opened, but the buyer opened a case with ebay last night at 1930 and the mail said ebay would make a decision in the next 24 hours. 3 minutes later there was a 2nd message saying ebay had made a decision and it was in the buyers favour. I didn't read these until this morning.
I'm not amused. I've appealed.
Thank you everyone for your advice, the rest of my stuff will be sent recorded.
