Did anyone else when they were younger collect rubbers?
Don't get me wrong, I havent looked lately, but Im pretty sure that rubbers nowadays arent half as much fun as they were when I was younger. Different smells, shapes etc Mainly the smell of a good rubber was the best thing at school. And we used to saw them up with our rulers and flick them at people.
Just me? Fair enough!

But do they taste good?
Going to a convent, I really didn't have very many boyfriends.
Yes, I was a complete rubber-phile!! The classroom was so fragrant with all our fruity smelling rubbers! I had lots of different coloured glittery ones (which were pretty useless as erasers; they just made a horrible smudge across your page), ones shaped like smurfs and Victoria Plum. The more unusual ones commanded quite a high price on the black market (two weeks' pocket money at least) and loads of respect from you peers.
I've still got my rubber collection, which my mum recently found in the loft. I have 76 in total and my favourite was a cream biscuit one, which still smells of vanilla. I started the collection when I was about 9 and I'm now 35. My two children and one of my nieces have really enjoyed looking through (and sniffing) them! They're definitely not as interesting nowadays!!
yep, me 2, i was the first in my class to have a smelly rubber (a swiss roll, smelled of vanilla and strawberry), nicky b********** stole it and got taken to the headmaster, so i got it back and she never spoke to me again, but everyone else wanted to smell the rubber so they did speak to me and then we all had hundreds of them, you know how it went.... :-)
Me too!! and I have to agree with Miss Zippy as most of them were actually totally useless and left various colour streaks across the page - think maybe you weren't actually meant to use them!! My favourite was a rainbow one that smelt of bubblegum - heaven!!
My favourite was those' lipstick' style ones. I had a Refresher one like the sweets, it smelt just like Refreshers.
Yeah rubber collecting was all the rage when I was a kid. It was also most people's first (and last) experience of the world of crime. I remember when I was about 12 I nicked a Sabre tooth tiger rubber from a well know news/stationary chain, never been so scared in my life, turned me off crime for good.
lmao gilf, that's given me the giggles, thankyou :-D
Remember the burger ones that had layers and came in a little box? The rubber craze was a brilliant fad that took over that year - to the point where they were banned from school. I remember it being on Newsround that they were banning them as kids were eating them...then came Garbage Pail Kids cards and yo yos - remember them! And those socks that you scrunched down - like leg warmers. And Brossette Grolsch bottle tops on your shoes....
When i was at junior school in the late 70's early 80's it was obigitory to collect rubbers - my little friends and i had hundreds between us. We were the same little girls who collected beads at Infant school. Fantastic - aaah - simple pleasures.... sigh
I (an American female), did also, in the 1980s, from about age 6 to age 11. I also had a hamburger-shaped one and a unicorn-shaped one, and a few that smelled like bubble gum, among many others.
