Spitting on a car - is this a crime?
16 Answers
I was recently walking home from work and crossed over the zebra crossing as I always do. As I came to the other side of the road, the car beeped at me. I turned round to see what was going on and the driver was shouting and swearing at me and getting very irate.
I really dont know why this was as I was just crossing the road.
He continued to swear at me so I swore back and as he was driving away my rage took over and I spat on his car. I know this is disgusting and yobbish behaviour but the altercation filled me with huge rage and I just spat on the car out of a stupid reaction.
If this is reported by him, can I get in trouble with the police for this? They have my DNA as I committed a crime when I was much younger (around 10 years ago).
I still have no idea why the driver was getting so angry with me - should I also report him for something? Maybe road rage?

Some councils have bye-laws which specifically prohibit spitting in public. (Breaching such a bye-law results in an £80 fixed penalty. Failure to pay the penalty can result in criminal prosecution).
Spitting on a car, however, probably constitutes criminal damage:

What about his abusive behaviour?
You say you were recently walking home. If you havn't heard anything by now. Move on.
Even i wouldn't bother going to the police about it. Once i had calmed down I would just get on with it rather than having the hassle of police and statements etc.
If it rains the crime is washed away. If any swob is taken by the person, what does that prove, he has your spit on a tissue.
Forget it honestly.
